“How do I go to the bathroom when I’m wearing a wedding dress?” Don’t laugh . . . it’s a question we’re asked by Minneapolis brides every day!
As always, Amazing Alterations in Anoka, MN, is here to provide you with the secrets of the wedding business! Your body won’t stop functioning regularly on your wedding day; you’ll inevitably be faced with the task of using the toilet in your gown. Here is a quick step-by-step guide on avoiding stress and a mess!
- Grab the front hem of your hoop or bottom layer of your skirt skirt and pull it up above your waist, keeping the layers of your skirt folded behind it so your dress doesn’t spill out over the front. If you’re wearing a gown with lots of tulle or layers, extra hands may be necessary . . . your wedding day is not the day to be shy asking for help!
- While holding the front of your skirt up, stand facing the toilet. You’ll want to sit backwards, with your knees facing the wall. This way, you don’t have to worry about your train getting wet! It’s much easier to hold up the front of your dress yourself than it is to have someone help you hold up the back.
- When you’re finished, stand up and lower the layers one by one, making sure they all lie smoothly.
There are two things you can do to make this trial easier on you and those assisting you.
Firstly, if your dress is heavy, voluminous, or in need of some extra “oomph,” a hoop can make the dress more comfortable all day long and make going to the bathroom a breeze. Read more about the benefits of a hoop here.
Secondly, if you are planning on using Spanx, like many brides do, you’ll want to stay posted to see tricks and tips for using the restroom in your bodyshapers!
