At Amazing Alterations, we can help you avoid dress stress during a time full of surprises and excitement. We have worked with dozens of pregnant brides and have figured out a fool-proof system to ensure a perfect fit for your formal attire! Here are a few things you should know before scheduling an appointment:
1. We can make your dress bigger. If you purchased your dress before you got the big news and aren’t able to return it for a larger size, don’t worry! Depending on how your dress is made and how far along you are in your pregnancy, we can either use the extra fabric in the seams to get a few more inches out of your dress or use extra fabric (either store-bought, factory-ordered, or taken from a matching sash) to add unnoticeable panels to expand the seams.
2. The timeline is important. Because your body is constantly changing during pregnancy, you’ll want to schedule fittings for dates as close to the event as you’re comfortable with…we recommend no earlier than a month before the event for a first bridal fitting, and as little as a week or a few days before the event for a final fitting (especially for bridesmaid dresses, which can typically be finished in a couple days). As with all clients, we suggest contacting us as soon as you have the event date—even if you don’t have the dress yet—to get on the calendar, as we do fill up quickly during peak wedding seasons.
3. We do this all the time. We speak with hundreds of brides a year, and although each woman is unique and each scenario special, when it comes to alterations we are experts at dealing with anything unexpected.
